About

Since the founding of our team in 1977, the “Foggs” have performed Morris dancing throughout Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia — and occasionally in other regions and countries! Our teammates are multi-generational and have varied backgrounds. We come together to dance, play music, sing, and socialize, and we happily invite you to join us!

Morris dancing is an athletic traditional dance from England, most often accompanied by acoustic instruments. Shakespeare called it old, but it has been practiced in North America for over a hundred years. For us, it’s a living tradition, as our repertoire is made of and informed by the old as much as the new. We perform for ourselves and often with other Morris teams, on the street, in and around pubs, and at special events, including folk festivals and seasonal fairs.

The Foggy Bottom Morris Men hold open practices in the spring and fall and welcome you to show up and give it a try. No experience is needed as it’s easy as step-hop, step-hop. If you think you can’t dance, the spirit of the Morris will change your mind! We typically hold practices on Saturday mornings, 10 AM – 12 PM, rotating locations throughout the “DMV”, generally outdoors in public spaces. Send an email to squire@fbmm.org for more specific information on practice dates and locations.
